Advocacy/Information Referral
Four Mile Family Resource Center is providing advocacy services to help the people Glendale, and surrounding areas, to solve problems that are impacting their families and children. Advocacy services are open to any person needing help regardless of age, religious background, sex or nationality. Advocates help with a wide variety of problems such as help with problems with education, health problems, financial problems rental problems, and others as they arise.

Advocacy is provided to the families in a way that provides positive reinforcement to the things that are working in their families, recognizing what the self identified problems are and then working through their solution. mostly through referral to another organization. During our exploration of their perceived problem sometimes other underlying problems are found that can be addressed.
People that we have worked with report that we listen to their problems, and give them more targeted solutions than any other agency that they have worked with. We are know as an agency that listens to people and helps them to find a long time solution. We value people for who they are and treat them with respect in an adult to adult voice. We are now getting referrals not only from our advertising but from apartment managers, doctors offices (inside and outside of our recognized service area) and from past clients that have referred their friend’s and family.

Homework Help
The Glendale Library and Four Mile Family Resource Center have joined together to provide Homework Help to the children of Glendale and Southeast Denver. Our area is the most culturally diverse area in all of Colorado. Many of our families and children are new English learners, which makes completing their children's homework doubly difficult.

Home Work Help is provided from 3:30 to 6:00 pm Monday through Thursday during the normal school year. Tutoring is provided by local college and university students who have a real interest in the well being of the students. The program is provided free of charge to all students from Kindergarten to 12th grade. The classes are held on the 2nd floor of the Glendale Library.

We welcome volunteers who can help with this vital program. Contact Jerry Sanders at (303) 991-4450.

Nutrition Classes for Glendale Families
Four Mile Family Resource Center initiated a series of Cooking and Nutrition Classes in partnership with Share our Strengths Four Mile Family Resource Center provided supervisory, transportation, and babysitting services; and share our Strengths provided a nutritionist and cook, as well as complimentary ingredients. In addition, Augustana Lutheran provided a kitchen and child care facility. Fifteen people attended the classes with six people receiving graduation certificates. These classes will continue in the future.

Pumpkin Seed Program
Ellis Elementary, Augustana Lutheran Church and Four Mile Family Resource Center have joined together to provide food to some of our most need families.

Four Mile Family Resource Center unites families from Augustana Lutheran Church who want to help with families from Ellis Elementary who need a helping hand. Pumpkin Seed is a feeding program that is different from most food pantries: the food given to the families is more ethnically targeted. Many of the people living in our service area are newly arrived immigrants. They have eating taste and habits that are much different than the average American. Once a month Pumpkin Seed provides our patrons a fruit and vegetable back obtained from Share Colorado as well as a specifically designed menu of nonperishable supplies. The non perishables menus are targeted at Hispanic, Arabic and American taste.

Once per quarter the giving families and the receiving families come together for food and games. A good time is had by all.

We are always in search of additional giving families. Please contact Jerry Sanders at (303) 991-445 for more information.

English as a Second Language Classes
Four Mile Family Resource Center working with the Spring Institute and Ellis Elementary School provides English as a second language classes for adults who live, and many times their children attend Ellis Elementary classes. The classes are open to all who are interested and all language levels. The pupils in the class test into the program from level 1 to level 5. The classes are held on Tuesday and Thursday of each week and we provide quality childcare that allows many house bound women to attend the class.
