Governor Ritter and his Wife visit Ellis Elementary.

On March 16, 2007 Governor Ritter and his wife visited Ellis Elementary. They came to Ellis Elementary to show their support for the outstanding programs provided to the highly diverse student body. Ellis serves a population that is approximately 55% Hispanic, 17% African (this includes refugees from Africa as well as African American), 6% Asian and 22% White (this number includes our refugee students from Russia and Turkey). Most of our clients are renters, over 42% speak languages other than English at home, and over 20% of the families live below the poverty line. With over 70% of the children qualified for the reduced lunch program.

The Ritter’s were given a tour of the facility spiced up by presentations from many
of the classes. Mrs. Ritter had been a long
term substitute teacher at Ellis in the past
and many of the children recognized her.
The Ritter’s were very gracious asking
and answering many questions and
shaking every hand that was extended.
