About Us

While recently established, the Four Mile Family Resource Center (FRC) draws upon a history of family services in Glendale. Four Mile Family Resource Center experienced a rebirth in January 2004, the former center, The Glendale Family Resource center had closed its doors in 2002 due to the illness and latter death of it Executive Director. The executive director of the FRCA and community stakeholders from the Glendale area—including political, business, civic, nonprofit, and church leaders, as well as many persons connected to the closed center—began meeting to determine how to continue very-much-needed services in Glendale and its surrounding neighborhoods. The group quickly agreed that the need for a center was dramatic and that they would commit to re-establishing the center.

The Four Mile Family Resource Center was established on January 1, 2005 and obtained its 501 (c) (3) recognition on June 28, 2005. A continuing board member, an attorney, volunteered services to submit the 501(c) (3) paperwork; a second continuing member donated cash and carries out bookkeeping; a third board member donated office space and all associated costs for six months; a fourth board member served as the executive director of the former center when it was operating successfully; a fifth, a pastor, persuaded his church, Augustana Lutheran, to donate funds and space. Several entities offered space for programming, and the newly named Four Mile FRC’s executive director donated his time for six months. Essentials of passion, experience, and expertise are in place.

Four Mile Family Resource Center has reestablished a wide variety of programs; family advocacy, nutrition, classes, homework help classes for k-12 youth, financial literacy classes for elementary students and their parents, a summer program for the children, a food program and English as a Second Language classes for non English speaking adults.

Four Mile Family Resource Center understands the importance of providing needed community programs that are not available in the neighborhood. We also understand the value and strength of building coalitions with other governmental and not for profit organizations to provide expanded services to our community. We work closely with the Glendale Library, Lutheran Family Services, Ellis Elementary School, The Spring Institute for Intercultural Learning, Catholic Charities, Share our Strengths, and Augustana Lutheran Church. These collaborations bring great experience, expertise and resources to Four Mile.
